Unter den Ländern, die einer allgemeinen Abschlusserklärung nicht zustimmten, sind danach sechs Staaten aus der G-20-Gruppe der wichtigsten Wirtschaftsmächte der Welt: Brasilien, Mexiko, Saudi-Arabien, Südafrika, Indien und Indonesien. Daneben unterzeichneten ua. Armenien, Bahrain, Thailand, Libyen und die Vereinigten Arabischen Emirate, Kolumbien und Vatikan die Erklärung nicht.

2024 steht ganz im Fokus der Arbeitsaufnahme der neuen thailändischen Regierung, die sowohl im Februar als auch März in Deutschland erwartet wird. Der Eastern Economic Corridor spielt dabei eine wichtige Rolle. Ein Blick auf die im Kalender hinterlegten Veranstaltungen hilft bei der Orientierung.

Am 7. Februar 1862 erfolgte der Abschluss des „Freundschafts-, Handels-  und Schifffahrtsvertrag zwischen den Staaten des Zollvereins („Preußen“) und den Großherzogtümern Mecklenburg-Schwerin und Mecklenburg-Strelitz einerseits und dem Königreiche Siam andererseits“ . Er gilt seither als die Gründungsurkunde für die diplomatischen Beziehungen zwischen Thailand und Deutschland. Es war ein Sachse, der nicht nur die Preußen angesichts der russischen Sanktionen gegen schlesische Tuche inspirierte, neue Wege zu gehen. Und dieser Vorschlag erwies sich doch als visionär und für alle Beteiligten erfolgreich. Gemeinsam, nicht gegeneinander. Das ist und bleibt es.
